One of the most important components for L&J’s wedding was for things to feel comfortably guided, but not forced. This wasn’t JUST in photography & film, but in the overall schedule, the food, and the design of the day.

Truthfully, there is no better way to celebrate your wedding than to enjoy it. A simple concept, yes, but so often overlooked. So Diana of Dreamery Events and I worked together to craft the perfect schedule–one with enough structure to keep us on track, but with enough of a buffer for L&J to enjoy their cocktail hour with guests, relax while getting ready, and spend the evening partying without another thought in the world.

An approach like this is what leads to a day feeling lived in. You can have a thousand strictly posed images or you can have one. One image of a real moment. Which collection do you think has more power over memory? The thousand planned and perfectly posed images, or the one of a single tear, or heartfelt smile, or too-tight hug?

I’m a one kinda gal. And for L&J, it was important to nail that feeling of raw emotion and energy, but to blend it carefully with all of the artful details they had created so their guests could experience the wedding at the same level.

This brought us to the wedding day! On a brilliantly sunny Saturday just across the border from Maine is a sleepy New Hampshire town. The perfect distance from Boston to be a destination wedding, L&J wanted a heavy splash of nature to contrast the urban landscapes their guests were so familiar with. This is how they discovered The Greenery at McKenzie’s Farm.

A blank slate–white walls, simple chandeliers, large windows, and tall ceilings meant that Diana could design anything in that space. Keeping in line with their desire for simple natural elements, Lisa opted for white roses and peonies nestled into an abundance of greenery. For the ceremony, they chose simple cross-back chairs to mimic the wooden ladders of the apple orchard they faced and keep the entire affair organic and true to the location.

From there, the day flowed simply. White candles, bright sunlight, a cocktail hour full of laughter…everything unraveled as it should into the sweetest of celebrations for two very loved humans (and their fur baby, Axel). Even when it was time for sunset portraits, Lisa & Jeff simply took a walk through the orchard and, when it was almost time to go inside, I simply asked them to hold each other and think about how much their love meant.

They didn’t have to think hard. In fact, nothing about their day was hard. That relaxed energy allowed them to have the BEST party with some of the best dance moves of the season. For a glimpse at some favorites and the amazing vendor team involved in this day, keep scrolling.

The words I hear whenever I see these images are the final sigh Mitch gave Steph as he completed his vows to her. Between shaky breaths he said, “Oh Stephie, I love you more than words can say.” And sometimes it’s as simple as that.

Autumn weddings are incredible on their own, but add a healthy dose of fall foliage and my al fresco dreams came true at this blush-inspired wedding day.
