We all know that rain is good luck on wedding days, but do you know why that saying exists? It turns out that “tying the knot” comes into play in one of many explanations. Perhaps the most logical is based on an Eastern wives’ tale from days when actually tying a knot was part of wedding ceremonies. When an actual knot is tied in the rain, it becomes almost impossible to untie. Thus, tying the knot in the rain means that your love is sure to last as it will be impossible to unravel. After a hurricane, I think it’s safe to say that Cody & Sydney’s knot is a perfect example of this.
Despite the lingering effects of a fall hurricane, Cody & Sydney’s day was not defined by the downpour and, instead, featured giggles, bright colors, family, and the sweetest kind of love. From a bridal bouquet made by Sydney’s aunt to heirloom pearl earrings, the love their families shared for them helped orchestrate the perfect celebration.
The day started at Sydney’s parents’ house where the rolling hills across the border toward New Brunswick offered a perfect backdrop to their porch-front photos until everyone headed to Grant Memorial Methodist Church in Presque Isle and then to Stone Ridge Event Center to party during this northern Maine wedding. Simple, rustic touches and tasteful greenery made this late summer wedding classic and elegant. The laughter made is impossible to forget.
I was so honored to be a part of this wedding day and am so excited to finally share some of these images with you. You can FEEL the magic of the day here and I still can’t get over how beautiful everything was. Thanks again for trusting me with these moments, Cody & Sydney. Here’s to a lifetime of laughter, even on the rainiest of days.
