I’ve always been a little obsessed with Montana, Wyoming, and Yellowstone. Don’t get me wrong, Glacier National Park and Banff make my heart flutter, but there’s something a little extra rugged about this area of Montana that I appreciate as well.

Two hours past Livingston, Montana is a small ranch tucked away on the ridge facing Hawley Mountain. The sun rise warms up the face of the mountain while the sunset blankets it in shadow before disappearing until the next day. Rustic and hidden, this gem of a place is a Montana paradise and where I met Joe & Maddy Stewart, who manage the ranch.

After a week-long hiatus on the ranch, I got a chance to know this amazing couple over early morning coffee and late night bonfires. Energetic and passionate, Maddy & Joe are the kind of people it is so easy to immediately admire. I was so blessed by their company and honored to be able to have this short moment to document a tiny ounce of the fun and love they exude.

We hiked up to on the ridge overlooking Hawley Mountain Guest Ranch just before sunset to capture the last bit of sunlight on those rugged mountain peaks. With the dogs in tow, we meandered along the horse-worn walking paths for some epic mountain portraits before Joe & Maddy broke out some swing dance moves and headed back toward the ranch.

I’m honestly in love with every image from this session and the adventure and light we got to experience. Sun-kissed mountains, wild sagebrush, and classic filmic color made for the Montana couples session of my dream.

Here’s to hoping these two venture to my neck of the woods and we can do it all over again.

The mountains have always had a special place in Kay’s heart, so finding ways to capture their rugged beauty with a focal point on gentle and joyful love is her favorite. The contrast tells a story of adventure and romance—a perfect combination for a destination wedding in Montana, Banff, or anywhere the mountains are still proud.

We love Montana elopements and weddings, national park elopements, and destination weddings, that we often waive travel fees for these locations. We’re so excited to connect with you and hear more about your plans. To find out if your day is available, fill out this contact form! Talk soon!

Sunstone villa flanked by olive trees--a wedding venue in Santa Ynez, Calfornia built with old-world, European charm

In the world of California venues, there are many that take your breath and offer a luxurious space to enjoy your day. Sunstone is one of the most iconic. Noted for it’s old-world charm and homey interior, this space feels less like you’re getting married at an estate and more like you’re getting married at home. Your very, very beautiful, Tuscan-inspired home.

Black and white editorial wedding photograph of bride and groom. Groom is wearing a black tuxedo and standing int he shadow. Bride is wearing a white wedding dress and standing in the sun. Yin and Yang wedding photos.

Nestled just to the east of the Napa River, this beautiful resort is home to a variety of modern farmhouse-inspired suites and bungalows, intermixed through the grape vines. Guests enjoy the privacy of their own lodgings with the ease of a weekend together, making this spot an ideal home base for a weekend of festivities. Accessible from three airports, Oakland, San Francisco, and Sacramento, Stanly Ranch is ideal for relaxed destination weddings.

As a wedding photographer, I am asked over and over how much film I shot at weddings, etc. Short answer? I wasn’t. But now I think this is a small joy I’ll continue granting myself.
