I’ve always been a little obsessed with Montana, Wyoming, and Yellowstone. Don’t get me wrong, Glacier National Park and Banff make my heart flutter, but there’s something a little extra rugged about this area of Montana that I appreciate as well.
Two hours past Livingston, Montana is a small ranch tucked away on the ridge facing Hawley Mountain. The sun rise warms up the face of the mountain while the sunset blankets it in shadow before disappearing until the next day. Rustic and hidden, this gem of a place is a Montana paradise and where I met Joe & Maddy Stewart, who manage the ranch.
After a week-long hiatus on the ranch, I got a chance to know this amazing couple over early morning coffee and late night bonfires. Energetic and passionate, Maddy & Joe are the kind of people it is so easy to immediately admire. I was so blessed by their company and honored to be able to have this short moment to document a tiny ounce of the fun and love they exude.
We hiked up to on the ridge overlooking Hawley Mountain Guest Ranch just before sunset to capture the last bit of sunlight on those rugged mountain peaks. With the dogs in tow, we meandered along the horse-worn walking paths for some epic mountain portraits before Joe & Maddy broke out some swing dance moves and headed back toward the ranch.
I’m honestly in love with every image from this session and the adventure and light we got to experience. Sun-kissed mountains, wild sagebrush, and classic filmic color made for the Montana couples session of my dream.
Here’s to hoping these two venture to my neck of the woods and we can do it all over again.
