Mackenzie & Mason’s story starts many years before these wedding photos were taken. Two kids in the farm town of Washburn, Aroostook County, Maine. Childhood friends turned best friends turned lovers, this sunny summer day celebrated saying yes to forever. It was the sweetest of country weddings during the height of potato blossom season.
Potato blossoms hold an extra special importance for our groom! A local farmer, the summer bloom of the potatoes is the first sign of an approaching harvest a month later. Dakota, owner of The Perfect Pick, incorporated a few of these tiny blooms into the centerpieces at the reception. The periwinkle notes of the flowers folded perfectly into the dusty blue, violet, and white color palette.
At each wedding, I try to think of one word that captures the essence of the day. As a photographer, I’m around each moment and I get to see all the behind-the-scenes nerves, the excited tears, the unrehearsed smiles. Getting a feel for the overall energy is what helps me create films that truly reflect the day and continue that story in the galleries.
For Kenzie & Mason, it was a little tricky! My first instinct was relaxed. And then simple. But there was something deeper that neither of those words could express, so I finally arrived at gentle.
These two spoke, smiled, touched, and laughed with each other with such a sweet gentleness. That essence said, “I love who you are, who you were, and who you will be.” It was easy. It was kind.
I couldn’t help but be reminded of the famous Bible verse, starting at 1 Corinthians 13:4.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…”
