Katie & Dilan
Popham Beach, Maine
Katie & Dilan. There’s so much to say about this beautiful, seaside wedding, the flawless florals, and the intimate, sentimental touches that were littered throughout the entire summer celebration. But I think what stood out most to me was how obviously happy everyone was for Mr. & Mrs. Tompkins, and how intensely their friends loved them.
Our story, however, doesn’t start on this sunny July morning. It starts long ago when a family fell in love with a little slice of the Maine coastline of Popham Beach… Where eventually, years, and years, and years later, Katie & Dilan got to say yes to forever.
Nestled just away from the ocean sits the Pilot House, where the Chapdelaine girls ran wild in the summer, sand in their hair, and sunsets on their faces. Interior coastal charm blended seamlessly with Katie & Dilan’s wedding design, but the beauty swept us outside where gracefully designed florals—vibrant peonys, sweet hydrangeas, dainty ranunculus—draped across tables and entryways at every turn.
Anxious excitement was palpable—the trolly ride to the ocean-front chapel was filled with with cleverly harmonized Dixie Cups lines and full laughter. (Something I quickly gathered was a beautiful trait of these women.) We were, indeed, “Going to the chapel” to get married. As laughter followed everyone down the scarlet trolly’s steps, things eventually calmed. Because this was the moment. And as everyone was nestled into Popham Chapel and Katie took her first steps down the aisle, time froze—but just for a moment.
And then in a whirl of sweet words and a first kiss, the new husband and wife whisked into the sunshine, a hundred hugs, and then back to make the seal official with the ringing of the wedding bells.
It was amazing, but like any wedding day, things don’t always go according to plan. For the record, Fraser did NOT lose the wedding license. But everyone thought Fraser lost the wedding license. Lost and found, either way, it was a pleasant turn of events because it lead to one of the sweetest and most hilarious best man speeches I’ve ever heard. We all learned so much about Dilan. Especially about his hoodie collection and dance moves. Who knew?
But through all the laughter of the day, some things continued to ring true: Katie & Dilan are two beautiful, kind, and intentional souls who have touched so many of the people in their circles.
Planned with family and friends, their fairytale wedding was everything a Maine destination wedding should be. But take a look for yourself.
